Representation of Family Communication Pattern in la Familia Madrigal in Encanto Movie by Disney

Abstract

Communication plays a significant role in daily life, particularly in one's immediate environment, family, so that harmony can be established. The purpose of this research is that the writer wants to show the representation of Family Communication in Madrigal family in Encanto movie by using semiotic analysis. This research takes 11 scenes that have been selected and processed according to the needs of researcher who is included as a representation of family communication patterns. The result of the analysis that has been carried out by the researcher is that in the Encanto movie, all types of Family Communication have been displayed named consensual, protective, laissez-faire, and pluralistic. LaissezFaire and Pluralistic types are family communication patterns that are widely found in this film. This type is considered the opposite type because pluralistic is considered an ideal type and laissez-faire is a less-than-ideal type. Pluralistic is the most ideal type because this type is suitable to be applied in families. Laissez-faire type is the less ideal type because of the lack of conversation and conformity from the family communication. Followed by the protective type with two scenes and the last is the consensual type with one scene.
