Abstract
Indonesia become one of the highest bamboo product exporters in the world. Indonesia is
recorded as being ranked third in the world. To maintain it, industries need a reliable machine,
unfortunately. The current machine is having several issues regarding the durability aspect of
the bamboo splitter machine that is commonly used in the industries that work with bamboo.
This is quite a problem because several the components of that machine is frequently replaced
due to the design factor and the high impact when splitting the bamboo. Based on that problem,
the researcher found out that Quality Function Deployment is the suitable method to solve the
problem, mainly Quality Function Deployment is heavily based on customer
needs/requirements. QFD method is a method to develop a product based on the voice of
customer of the product. According to Yoji Akao (1990) the founder of QFD, QFD is a
methodology to translate the needs of the customer to design a product that is based on what
the customers want and need. The result found out 8 attributes that important for customers,
which is “Process Time”, “Safety”, “Durability”, “Precision”, “Easy to use”, “Customization”,
“Affordability”, and “Portability”. And the improved design is created based on the analysis
using the QFD method.
