Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out what functional developments occurred in the tadah alas and whether it had anything to do with the activities of the local community that influenced this, where previously the tadhah alas was only used as a seat and as a social space. In this study, using a qualitative method by conducting observations, secondary data, and direct interviews to collect data and formulate problems as well as study the literature to support the data in this study. In this study, direct observations were made in the RW 9 area by interviewing several people concerned. After doing some research, there were several findings related to the development of functions that occurred at Tadhah Alas in RW9, Purbayan Village, Kota Gede, namely: tadhah alas that have new functions such as a place to display flowers, a place to store shoes, and household items. The cause of this function development is related to the decreasing community activities around the tadhah alas due to changes in the position of houses after the 2006 earthquake. Observations also show that tadhah alas that are still frequently used for seating and social activities are those located near houses that still face each other. This concept is supported by a theory on human interest in choosing a seat. The conclusion of this research is that the development of functions in the tadhah alas is caused by social activities around it.
