The Suku Anak Dalam, also known as the Orang Rimba, are an ethnic minority inhabiting the forests of Jambi Province in Sumatra. Recent surveys estimate their population to be around 2,500 to 3,000 people. They lead a semi-nomadic lifestyle and rely heavily on forest resources and traditional activities such as hunting, gathering, farming, and making handicrafts. The group's origins are closely linked to the historical conflict between the Kingdom of Jambi and the Sultanate of Palembang in the 17th century. This conflict forced some people to flee and settle in the forests of Jambi. However, in the modern era, the Suku Anak Dalam face significant challenges in maintaining their way of life and well-being. Conversion of forests into oil palm plantations, illegal logging, and changes in land use have drastically reduced their living space. This has resulted in food crises and limited access to the natural resources that have long supported their livelihoods. Additionally, they struggle to market their agricultural products, vegetables, and handmade souvenirs due to a lack of dedicated spaces for interaction and trade with the local community. The lack of spaces for social and economic interaction between the Suku Anak Dalam and the surrounding communities is a major barrier to the integration and economic progress of both groups. Research shows that social interaction through trade and cooperation can strengthen relationships and drive positive social change, including cultural assimilation and improved living standards. However, without a platform to facilitate meetings and collaboration, achieving this potential synergy is difficult. Therefore, establishing a cultural center that brings the Suku Anak Dalam and the Sarolangun community together is crucial. The center could serve as a shared space that fosters a sense of belonging, broadens market access for Suku Anak Dalam products, and strengthens their cultural identity and sustainability in the face of changing times. It is hoped that with such a center, social and economic harmony will be created, benefiting both sides and serving as a strategic effort to preserve the existence and independence of the Suku Anak Dalam community in the future.en_US
