Abstract
Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) often face problems when implementing
enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems due to limited resources and the need for
agile and cost-effective solutions. This paper explores the implementation of Odoo, an
open-source ERP software, within the context of SMEs, focusing on integrating sales and
purchasing modules using the Rapid Application Development (RAD) methodology. The
research begins by providing an overview of the ERP landscape, highlighting SMEs'
specific needs and constraints. It then introduces the Odoo platform and its key features,
emphasizing its suitability for SME environments. The paper delves into integrating the
sales and purchasing modules within the Odoo ERP framework, addressing the unique
challenges and considerations encountered in this process. The paper's core discusses the
implementation of Odoo using the RAD approach, which emphasizes rapid prototyping,
iterative development, and active user involvement. This methodology aligns well with
the dynamic nature of SME operations and their need for flexible and responsive software
solutions. The study outlines the steps involved in the RAD-based Odoo implementation,
including requirements gathering, system design, rapid prototyping, and iterative
refinement. The paper presents a detailed case study showcasing the implementation of
the Odoo ERP system with integrated sales and purchasing modules in a real-world SME
scenario. The case study provides insights into the challenges encountered, the strategies
to overcome them, and the measurable benefits of improved operational efficiency,
enhanced decision-making, and increased customer satisfaction. Finally, the paper
discusses the implications of the Odoo ERP implementation using the RAD approach
within the SME context. It highlights the potential for increased agility, reduced time-to-
market, and enhanced user experience, as well as the scalability and adaptability of the
Odoo platform to meet the evolving needs of SMEs.
