Abstract

The development of road infrastructure in Indonesia has increased with the growing volume of vehicles, and Hot Rolled Sheet (HRS) pavement is commonly used. HRS consists of fine aggregates, coarse aggregates, and filler, with natural sand as the typical fine aggregate. Muara Semaka sand in Tanggamus Regency, Lampung, has potential as a fine aggregate but is underutilized due to limited extraction technology and the need for quality research. This study evaluates Muara Semaka sand as a substitute for fine aggregates in HRS mixtures. The research involves four stages: testing aggregate and asphalt properties, determining optimum asphalt content with substitution variations (0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%), conducting Marshall, IRS, ITS, TSR, and CL tests, and analyzing results. Findings show that increasing Muara Semaka sand substitution reduces stability and MQ while increasing flow, VITM, and VMA, indicating larger voids. Although IRS, ITS, TSR, and CL tests showed decreased performance, the mixture met the 2018 Bina Marga specifications and is viable as a fine aggregate substitute up to 100%.
