Abstract

This research investigates the challenges and opportunities faced by the Incubation and Management Association (IBISMA) and its tenant startups in their export and import endeavors. Drawing from interviews with three IBISMA tenants and the director, the study identifies five key challenges in export: complex licensing and documentation, identifying suitable importers/exporters, meeting global standards, high cost of equipment, and large order quantities. Additionally, one major challenge in import is identified: difficulty locating suitable partners. IBISMA is well-positioned to address these challenges through strategic solutions like streamlined resource guides, partner search assistance, compliance training, financial support programs, and a novel University-to-University (U2U) import program. Furthermore, five key opportunities for IBISMA to facilitate export success emerge: leveraging government support, capitalizing on unique product value, fostering client collaboration, embracing tenant diversity, and encouraging continuous innovation. By implementing these solutions and capitalizing on these opportunities, IBISMA can empower its tenants, overcome export and import hurdles, and achieve sustainable success in the international market.
