Abstract
The design of the Floating Market Center in Lok Baintan,
Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, considers its unique
geographical context, located above the river where many boat
vendors operate in the morning. By integrating traditional Banjar
elements and capitalizing on the distinctiveness of this location,
the architectural design strives to establish a market center that
serves not only as a trading hub but also as a focal point for
cultural activities in Banjarmasin.
This study explores architectural design incorporating traditional
Banjar elements with contemporary touches, creating
multifunctional spaces serving as both a market and communal
areas for cultural appreciation in Banjarmasin. Emphasizing
sustainability, eco-friendly technology and practices are utilized to
bolster local economic development. The building's location will
be above the Lok Baintan river.
Emphasizing a distinctive experience for visitors while preserving
the genuine ambiance of the floating market. Sustainable design
takes precedence, incorporating green technology and eco-friendly
materials in line with the ethos of conserving the river environment
and local traditions. Positioned strategically and deeply rooted in
cultural values, the Floating Market Center is envisioned to
function not only as a local economic focal point but also as a
tourist attraction, showcasing Banjarmasin as a unique and
enriching cultural destination.
